The rider circles the ring on its own and never stops. Tap anywhere on the ring, or press the space bar or Enter, and it reverses.
Spikes announce themselves first: a glow pulses on the piece of ring they are about to sprout from. When the glow ends the spikes come out, stand for a moment, and pull back in.
Touch a spike while it is out and the run ends. Every spike that pulls back in with you still riding is a point.
Every scheduled spike is placed ahead of you, far enough that the whole warning happens before you could reach it, so there is always a way out: reverse before you get there, and reverse again before you come round the other way.
Keep moving, though. If you shuttle back and forth on the same patch of ring instead of going anywhere, that patch grows a spike of its own, across the whole stretch you have been sitting on. It warns for a full second first, so there is time to leave, but the only way out is to actually go somewhere else.
The rider speeds up as your score climbs, and the spikes come closer together.
The moment you reach the goal your reveal is locked in and safe, even if the very next spike catches you.
Sound and vibration are both off until you turn them on, with the two small buttons above the ring. Vibration needs its own switch on, and what it does depends on the phone. On an Android phone the buzzes tell the moments apart, so a perfect and a miss feel different. On an iPhone or iPad you feel your own tap and nothing else, because that is the only thing iOS lets a web page do.
